John Douglas designs has been involved in designing and supervising the restoration of vintage home's and commercial properties all over southern california for over ten years. The challenge with this kind of approach is to design with the modern realities we live in today while interweaving the principles and applications of the period into the project. In our portfolio you will find examples of old homes we have put back as well as new homes which we have given a vintage feel. John Douglas's background has been that of an artist and designer for around 15 years. He is a restoration “of the period” designer and enjoys working with the historic theme of the given house or building. There are certain projects that fall into the realm of preservation while other projects can be defined as remodeling within the spirit of the period. Whatever your needs might be John is able to achieve preservation, remodeling with a sense of the period, or somewhere in between.
His primary niche would be 1900’s thru 1930’s classic California architecture including Spanish, Mediterranean, and Italian revivals, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Tudor, and Victorian. John's services include all elevations and layouts, architectural features (fireplaces, entries, corbels, columns, etc.), materials (tile, wood, marble, paint, etc.), furnishings, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, etc. John is very well sourced when it comes to vintage furniture and lighting or vintage reproductions. He designs custom wrought iron, stain glass, cast stone, cabinets, marble layouts along with any other artistic or craftsmanship application. John offers decorating services that emphasize vintage interiors through the appropriate window treatments, rugs, furniture selections and art. He also advises and designs ideas for landscape and exterior applications. The goal is to have an overall feel created within the project that is coordinated and unified. John and his team believes this approach creates the best product for you to enjoy for a long time to come.
